Councilman Spillers mo-wd that the permit be granted exempt license fees, seconded by Councilman Weiss and carried. DODGE City Clerk Minutes of the Regular Meeting Redwood City Council March 4, 19571, 8:00 P. M. Invocation was led by Father Fredericks of the St. PeterIsEpiscopal Church. ON ROLL CALL the following were noted present: Councilman Floyd D. Granger, Sidney D. Herkner, Robert V. Spillers, Hiram S. Stout, Louise Weiss, Ray Weymouth, Mayor William H. Royer and City Clerk R. S. Dodge. Also present were City Manager E. A. Rolison, City Engineer Glenn M. Jain, City Attorney Robert Costello, Plater Superintendent H. L. Winter, Police Chief William Faulstich, Assistant to City Manager L. A. Kimball, City Collector Paul E. Perrin, Recreation Director Alfred Morton, Planning Commissioner Rambo, Police Captain Theodore Moudakas and Senior Stenographer -Clerk Vivian Holmquist: Councilman Spillers moved approval of the minutes of February 18th and 25th, as mailed, seconded by Councilman Weymouth. Councilman Stout stated that he had one correction he would like to make on the February 25th minutes, page 2, Adopt Sales Tax Ordinances 8'.3, 844, 845 and 846: correct to read as follows: Councilman Stout stated that he did not read the clippings until a question had d� been raised relative to known opposition and he used the item in answer to show that according to.the printed reports in Belmont, San Carlos and Menlo Park there was not the opposition claimed. This correction was noted and the motion carried. PUBLIO HEARING PROPOSED OFFICIAL PLAN LINES, JEFFERSON AVENUE FROM EL CAMINO REAL TO MIDDLEFIELD ROAD. There were no written protests. The Clerk read the letter from the Planning Commission. Mr. George Forbes of the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company stated that this new recommendation of the Planning Commission was satisfactory to his company. Mr. Al Davies stated that the original plans called for an 84' street. He vias not in favor of reducing the width of sidewalk, to increase the width of the street. Mr. Davies feels that a compromise should be made making the street 601 wide and 10 feet sidewalks on each side of the street. Mr. Davies presented a petition which was drawn up and circulated by Mr. Depaoli Jr. The petition protested the proposed plan lines -as they relate to the widening of Jefferson Avenue. The plan lines would be acceptable if modified so that the street width would be ten feet, corners to be held to an eight foot radius. Mr. Davies compared Jefferson Avenue to Broadway. The City Engineer stated that the State has set a standard street width upon which gas tax figures are available. He is not sure, however, just IV what this figure is. The State has not been accepting 60t streeets, and they have the control of X -A the spending of gas tax money. The State is not interested in the width of sidewalks but they are Tinterested in the space from the curbs. Mr. Jain stated that a 5 or 61 sidewalk is not satisfactory in a businbss district. The State has stated that they will not approve gas tax money on 56t streets, and the only time the City can get approval for expenditures is after the street plans are ready and submitted for approval. The State will not approve expenditures in advance of the necessary plans.
