INVOCATION - Pastor Dennis Logie, Sequoia Christian Church <br />5. SPECIAL ORDERS OF THE DAY — Partnership Academy for Community <br />Teamwork (P.A.C.T.) Graduation <br />Mayor Ira and Vice Mayor Pierce congratulated the P.A.C.T. graduates and <br />distributed certificates of completion to all those present. <br />6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br />Rudy Luca thanked Council, staff and the community for their thoughts and cards <br />sent to him regarding his illness. He congratulated the group's success in <br />defeating Measure Q and expressed the hope that if the project does come back <br />for consideration that it be a different proposal. He also questioned the affordable <br />housing price of over $500,000.00 per unit in the subject proposed project. He <br />asked exactly what work would be done at the Community Activities Building for <br />the bid price. <br />Mike Spence thanked Mayor Ira for his congratulatory call and his invitation to sit <br />down and provide input on the future development of the bay front. He requested <br />that a member of the No on Q committee be included if a task force is created for <br />planning on the bay front. He further stated that the committee looks forward to <br />being included in the process during the next few months while the City <br />addresses the future housing needs throughout Redwood City. He reiterated his <br />statement in June when citing newspaper articles written about other Peninsula <br />cities that were described as being "on track" because they were building non <br />vehicle oriented housing near CalTrain. At that time, he asked that Council make <br />the Downtown Area Plan a priority, to respect the General Plan and Housing <br />Element guidelines and not change the bay front zoning to allow the Marina <br />Shores project to go forward. He urged all residents to support future plans for <br />smart downtown infill of mixed housing and retail to place smart housing units <br />within reasonable walking distances from transportation, jobs, restaurants and <br />theatre. <br />Joe Bozzuto, representing Redwood City National Little League, stated that in <br />preparing for the 2005 baseball season he was present to apprise the Council of <br />some ill issues. He stated that the age group of 13 -18 years of age plays on the <br />larger fields such as the Sequoia High School baseball diamonds.
