MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST
a. Councilman Stangel reported that SamTrans has received plans for the
renovation of the bus depot on Brewster Street by the fall of 1987.
b. Vice Mayor Chandler, representative to the ALUC (Airport Land Use Committee)
reported that the RCP (Regional Planning Commission) has replied negatively
to the ALUC request for certain authority in the area of airport land use
questions, stating they wish to keep the authority and maintain the ALUC as
an advisory body, making recommendations only. Mr. Chandler said the ALUC
will communicate with the Board of Supervisors and the Council of Mayors on
the subject, although they may not appeal to those bodies directly.
c. Vice Mayor Chandler also reported on two bills in the State Legislature. One
bill will create an Aviation Improvement Fund from a tax on air fuel. The
other bill came to his attention as a member of the Mosquito Abatement
District Board, and was introduced by Assemblyman Sher without consulting the
Board. It involves a ban on the import of used tires which it has been
suggested are carriers of type of mosquito. Mr. Chandler said that there is
an active business here in the recapping of tires for export, and the Board
does not believe there is a threat from the mosquitos. Mr. Chandler said he
will bring the bills to the attention of the Legislative Committee later.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - --
CITY MANAGER REPORTS
6.
