MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br />2. Housing assistance payments to displaced tenants of <br />Casa de Redwood <br />Councilman Bury reported on the relocation of residents of Casa de Redwood as <br />a result of the fire, stating that 24 residents are now housed in two motels <br />where they have received financial assistance from the Red Cross. Councilman <br />Bury said that Red Cross funds for the purpose have run out and attempts are <br />being made to obtain the needed assistance elsewhere with some funds <br />possibly contributed by the City. He said that the cost of renovation of <br />Casa de Redwood and the time to complete the work are not known and that some <br />assistance will be needed to pay for housing supplements pending completion <br />of repairs. Councilman Bury also reported on the condition of the building <br />and asked for authorization for staff to look into possible ways to meet <br />needs of some residents. <br />M /S: Greenalch /Laberge to authorize staff to continue to negotiate with the <br />motel operators who are housing the 24 displaced seniors from Casa de Redwood <br />and to find out if any kind of insurance funds are available, while keeping <br />Council informed as to the possible City expenditure which would be involved. <br />Carried unanimously by voice vote.
