Item I - Department Reports (continued) <br />The 1987 -88 allocation for Human Services Programs was considered out of <br />order at this time. <br />M /S: Britschgi /Greenalch to accept the recommendation of the Housing <br />and Human Concerns Committee with regard to Human Services Assistance <br />for 1987-88. <br />CLARIFICATION: Vice Mayor Chandler suggested, and it was accepted by <br />Councilmen Britschgi and Greenal ch, that the motion anticipates review <br />of the entire area of human services assistance with priorities to be <br />set for the future. <br />Rebecca Cooper, Friends for Youth, 999 Main Street, said the goal <br />of her organization is to direct youth away from the court system and <br />encourage them to become productive members of the community. She <br />described the program, stating it involves establishing stable, <br />individual rel ati onshi ps between an adult and each youth in the <br />program. <br />Michael Hutton, YMCA Service Bureau, 609 Price Street, described <br />the Bureau's counseling services, noting that Friends for Youth is a <br />program to whi ch hi s group di rects cl ients. <br />Eddie Mae Spill er, 127 Cypress, Emergency Hunger Fund, described <br />the program and increasing needs for such service in the City. <br />Colleen McLaughlin, Peninsula Oral School, reported that 30% of the <br />children participating in the program are from Redwood City. <br />V. Bennett, Kai nos Home and Training Center, provided a status <br />report on programs and said there is a need for sustaining funds to <br />replace equipment and do repairs. <br />Kathy Eaton, Director of Stein Center, 1496 Virginia Avenue, said <br />her program is to provide a support group for families of children with <br />1 ife- threatening ill nesses. <br />The motion with the clarification carried unanimously by voice vote. <br />MINUTE CR DE R NO. 87-111 <br />Council returned to Department reports <br />General Services <br />Nita Spanqler, 970 Edgewood Road, suggested the City might be able <br />to make use of the new automated type of meter reading equipment used by <br />PG &E. General Services Director Sennewal d reported that the City is <br />considering more automated equipment to improve the system, but that <br />meter readers are still needed to enter the information. <br />Budget .
