He suggested that someone may be discriminatory
and that Council should follow the procedure used before. He further stated that
the Council does not have the community in mind and that it is time to get
together with the community to find out its desires. He stated that the process
should have been an appointment as was done with Ian Bain.

Pete Hughes stated that there 11 very good people to choose from and that he
and Ginny are supporting Janet Borgens. He stated that she won the two
outstanding citizen awards in Redwood City, the American Legion Award and the
Sequoia Award. He further stated his experience in working with Ms. Borgens on
many projects and that she is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable person.

Vance Smith stated that there is a process used before. The staff and committee
came up with a process, the next highest vote getter is a former Council Member
and he did not understand why we were still at this point. He further stated that
each Council Member devoted time and money to get to their position and that
the next highest vote getter in the last election lost by very few votes. He stated
that the election stated the community's position and could not have changed
much since then. He further cited Paul Sanfilipo's experience toward serving as
the appointed Council Member.

Maria Diaz Vivian asked the Council to keep in mind that many residents have
applied much effort into the community and giving input. One of the components'
pertained to the 5-year plan where the top priority was that there be a
collaboration of education for the library.
