<br />~, I-B. 1 <br /> <br />REPORT <br /> <br /> <br />February 7, 2005 <br /> <br />Subject <br />Award of Contract - Broadway/Woodside Road Intersection Improvements Project <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />Approve the Contract Documents and award the contract for the Broadway/Woodside <br />Road Intersection Improvements Project to the lowest responsible bidder, Interstate <br />Grading & Paving, Inc. of South San Francisco, California, for their bid of $143,463.25. <br /> <br />Background <br />Caltrans has recently completed an interchange improvement project at the Highway <br />101/Woodside Road Interchange that included the addition of a second on-ramp lane <br />from eastbound Woodside Road onto southbound Highway 101. <br /> <br />The Broadway/Woodside Road Intersection Improvement Project will modify the <br />median island and the traffic lanes in the southbound Broadway direction to allow <br />vehicles in the #1 southbound left turn lane to directly enter the southbound Highway <br />101 on-ramp, without having to change lanes in the short segment between Broadway <br />and the on-ramp. Vehicles in the #2 left/though southbound lane will have the option of <br />traveling through Woodside Road (continuing straight on southbound Broadway) or <br />turning left and directly connecting into the other southbound Highway 101 on-ramp <br />lane. <br /> <br />In addition to the lane modifications, the traffic signals at Broadway/Woodside Road will <br />be modified to provide better signal indications to the drivers on Broadway, and will also <br />add a right turn overlap signal phase for northbound Broadway onto eastbound <br />Woodside Road. These lane and traffic signal modifications will work in conjunction <br />with the new interchange improvements to improve the traffic flow and safety at the <br />intersection, as well as facilitate the traffic movement from Broadway onto southbound <br />Highway 101. <br /> <br />On January 19, 2005, three (3) bids were received for the Broadway/Woodside Road <br />Intersection Improvements Project and are summarized below: <br /> <br /> Bid <br />~ank Contractor Amount <br /> <br />1.
