Report re Liability Insurance (702 -04)
Report: Finance Director 6/19/86
Finance Director Ramchandani presented the subject report, adding that he
learned today that 12 of the 20 cities invited to do so have now accepted the
invitation of ABAG to join their pool. He reported annual costs for ABAG
coverage with a $500,000 retention (deductible) would be $237,910 plus
administration charges of $31,207 for a total of $269,117; inverse
condemnation would not be covered; settlements over $50,000 would have to be
settled by the Board rather than the individual city; and the risks of all
pool cities would be shared by members.
In response to question, Mr. Ramchandani said that the City has $5,000,000 in
the self - insurance fund for liability insurance and Workers' Compensation.
John J. Murray, 568 Seahorse Lane, attorney, said that if the City is
considering "going bare ", he urges consideration of "umbrella" coverage for
$5 -15 million, noting that the cost of such insurance is not as high as for
amounts below those figures.
Mr. Ramchandani reported that consideration has been given to "umbrella"
coverage, but it is not available at any price now.
Reg.Mtg.
6/23/86
Page 5
MINUTE BOOK NO. 46
Page No. 314
