Council Member Pierce explained that AB 2954 would provide that upon <br /> adoption or revision of a city's or county's general plan, the land use portion <br /> of the general plan address the distribution of child care facilities. She further <br /> encouraged support for AB 2954. <br /> <br /> M/S Ira/Ruskin to adopt: <br /> RESOLUTION 14439 OF SUPPORT FOR ASSEMBLY BILL 2954, DISTRIBUTION <br /> OF CHILD CARE FACILITIES; <br /> <br /> The motion passed by a unanimous roll call vote by those present with <br /> Council Member Hartnett absent. <br /> <br /> 8D. Council Member Ruskin - reported on progress concerning the Bay Area's <br /> efforts to force Saw Francisco to repair the Hetch Hetchy Water System. He <br /> stated that there ~.-P. three pieces of legislation now in the State Capitol and <br /> each have been making progress. Each of the three bills must pass out of <br /> three committees, the Senate Bill authored by Senator Speier made it out of <br /> the first and will go before the second hearing on May 7. The key bill, authored <br /> by Assembly Members Papan and Simitian, has gone through one committee <br /> hearing. The third bill has passed though three committees already. The votes <br /> reflect the accumulation of the united effort of almost ail the Bay Area <br /> Senators, the Bay Area Water Users Association which includes the 29 cities <br /> and water districts around the Bay Area, a three County political arm of <br /> BAWUA consisting of representatives of all of the elected officials of the cities <br /> and water districts and the corporate officers of the water districts. He stated <br /> that on the morning of May 7, the two bills will go before another committee <br /> and he along with other representatives will be in Sacramento to help get the <br /> bills through the next hearings. Council Member Ruskin will report back after <br /> · the May 7 hearings. <br /> <br /> 8E. Council Member Pierce - explained Redwood City 2020 had a joint meeting <br /> with the City of Redwood City, San Mateo County, the Redwood City <br /> Elementary School District and Sequoia High School District. The purpose <br /> was to review information from the John Gardner youth budget. The pilot <br /> program focused on how the agencies, non-profit agencies and others are <br /> using funds to benefit youth. The session will be rebroadcast on Channel 26 <br /> at various times. <br /> <br /> 8F. Council Member Howard - stated that May 15 is Legislative action day in <br /> Sacramento, where she and Council Member Pierce will be attending to <br /> discuss issues such as water, protection of property taxes among others. <br /> Also, next Saturday, May 11 between 8 and 8:30 the annual spring cleanup <br /> will occur with the mulch giveaway on May 11 and 12. The targeted area is <br /> Woodside Road, where sweeping, cleaning, painting and Woodside Terrace <br /> will sponsor a lemonade stand.
