To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the City Manager May 20, 2002 Subject 2001-2002 Cost Shared Sidewalk Repair Project Recommendation By Motion, accept improvements for the 2001-2002 Cost Shared Sidewalk Repair Project, and release the retention to L & B Engineering, Inc. Background On February 25, 2001, the City Council approved the contract documents and specifications and authorized the City Clerk to call for bids for the subject contract. The proposed contract was duly advertised and five sealed bids were received and opened at the Office of the City Clerk on April 25, 2001. On May 18, 2001 the City Council awarded the contract to L & B Engineering, Inc. in the amount of $245,950.00. The Council approved change orders on April 22, 2002 increasing the contract amount to $308,225, 25.3% greater than the original contract. The cost shared project performed repairs at 112 locations including root pruning and retaining 55 trees, constructing 27 wheel chair ramps, and repairs at utility sites. L & B Engineering has completed the work to specifications and staff recommends accepting the improvements. There is a one-year guarantee on the concrete improvements written into the contract agreement. Alternatives The only alternative would be not to accept the project and release the retention. Staff believes that all known requests for punch list items have been corrected. The contractor is due his retention for this project. Fiscal Impact Adequate funds are available and have been encumbered in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP), Tree Preservation and Sidewalk Repair funding to cover the release of retention.
