-7, I-FI <br /> <br /> the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the City Mana~ler <br /> <br />May 20, 2002 <br /> <br />Subject <br />Final Acceptance - 2000-2001 Watermain Replacement Project <br />Engineering File No. 806-08 <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />Accept the 2000-2001 Watermain Replacement Project, and authorize the release of <br />bonds and retention. <br /> <br />Background <br />On July 9, 2001, the city Council awarded the construction contract for the 2000-2001 <br />Watermain Replacement Project to P&J Utility Company of San Francisco, California, <br />for the amount of $1,574,244.00. <br /> <br />Every year the City undertakes a watermain replacement program funded by the <br />Capital Improvement Program Water Fund. This program is designed for <br />systematically replacing water distribution system main lines, which have a history of <br />service disruptions due to age, excessive maintenance requirements, insufficient fire <br />protection, and/or capacity limitations. A priority list is reviewed and updated annually <br />by the City's Engineering & Construction Services, and the Public Works Services <br />Department, to determine the priority areas to be included in the program each year. <br />This year's program included the replacement of nearly three (3) miles of watermain in <br />seven (7) phases. <br /> <br />This $1.6 million project was designed by the City's Engineering Staff, and the <br />construction administrated by Assistant Engineer, Javier Sierra. <br /> <br />The project has been successfully completed in accordance with the plans and <br />specifications for a total cost of $1,602,367.13. One Change Order was issued due to a <br />quantity adjustment, for a total of $28,123.13, which represents 1.8% of the original bid <br />price~ <br /> <br />Alternative <br />Do not approve the Final Acceptance of this project, which would be contrary to prior <br />Council actions. <br /> <br /> <br />
