Non - Agenda Item (continued) <br />Mayor Britschgi announced that the City has received one of the four <br />Honorable Mentions for the Helen Putnam Award for Excellence awarded annually <br />by the League of California Cities for outstanding City projects. Mayor <br />Britschgi said that the Heron Court Cooperative was one of 43 entries this <br />year. <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- <br />1. Presentation by San Mateo County Supervisor John M. <br />Ward re Measure "A" (BART extension to Colma) on <br />November ballot. (1202) <br />Supervisor Ward was not present. Mayor Britschgi stated that the City <br />Council has gone on record in support of Measure "A" previously. <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- <br />WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS <br />26. Letter from Frances Wood re timing of "Walk" signal at <br />Middlefield Road /Douglas (301 -07) <br />Report of City Manager and Director of Public Works 10/4/85 <br />There being no objection, Mayor Britschgi ordered the subject item heard out <br />of order at this time. <br />Frances Wood, 428 Santa Clara, acknowledged receipt of a letter transmitting <br />the report of the Director of Public Works describing the increased timing <br />for pedestrian crossing and a copy of the Agenda listing her letter. Mrs. <br />Wood said that seniors require more than the increased timing to cross <br />Middlefield and asked that some additional action be taken to make it <br />possible for seniors to cross during the lunch period. <br />The following persons also spoke in favor of improving the crossing situation <br />at Middlefield and Douglas: <br />Ursula Gruban, 596 Chestnut <br />Harold Palmer, 2659 Hampton <br />CONSENSUS: Mayor Britschgi determined it to be the consensus of Council that <br />a crossing guard be placed at the Middlefield /Douglas intersection during the <br />lunch hour now to assist seniors and that consideration be given to providing <br />the guard with a hand -held electronic device to control the signal, if <br />legally possible, or construction of a traffic island or use of a vehicle to <br />transport seniors crossing the street at lunchtime. <br />MEMO 10/17/85 <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- <br />PUBLIC HEARINGS (continued) <br />2.
