5. Grant of Conditional Variance - Kliklok Building, 1089
Kliklok Way (203 -05)
Report of City Manager and Director of Public Works 3/16/84
(Correction: in line 4 of paragraph 1, "170 feet" should be 107 feet.)
Director of Public Works Addiego referred to the subject report and to a
slide projection and a wall map of the area. In response to questions, Mr.
Addiego said that he and the Traffic Engineer had observed the required
truck parking manuevers in a demonstration, and they are satisfied that no
public safety problems will occur and no on- street parking will be
eliminated.
Mike McCracken, 2755 Campus, San Mateo, attorney representing Jack Keeney,
owner of the property at 1050 Kliklok Way, opposite the subject property,
reported that his client received notice of the plans of Peninsula Office
Supply for use of the building on March 14, and he would like time to
consider them. Mr. McCracken requested that the matter be continued so
that his client may review the requested variance plans.
Jack Keeney, owner of 1050 Kliklok Way, said he is concerned about street
congestion which might be created by trucks across the street and the
possible effect on his building which is empty and being offered for light
warehousing.
M /S: Bury /Britschgi to continue action on the subject application for
variance for two weeks.
Bob Dolan, 725 Desoto Drive, Palo Alto, representing Peninsula Office
Supply, stated in response to questions that the intended use of the
building is appropriate; that present truck traffic may be reduced, because
of consolidation of shipments; that use of the street by trucks will be
reduced, since they will be able to make use of the off - street parking
bays; that safety will be improved because of relocation of the fire
hydrant to a more desirable location; and Mr. Dolan said that the sellers
of the property, Kliklok Corporation, Greenwich, Connecticut, are anxious
to close escrow.
CHANGE OF MOTION: Councilman Bury, with the consent of his second, changed
his motion to continue the item for one week.
Andrew Finer, Coldwell Banker, 177 Bovet Road, San Mateo, realtor, replied
to question stating that courtesy notice was sent to Mr. Keeney in a letter
dated March 12, 1984.
Discussion followed and City Attorney Schricker, Mr. Dolan and Mr. Addiego
replied to questions and commented concerning legal notice requirements
relating to neighbors; public safety findings; the nature of professional
studies and testing to determine the best means of handling truck
deliveries; the kinds of use to which the subject property and Mr. Keeney's
property might be put; and whether there might be other alternatives for
handling the trucks.
Reg.
