Report re Campaign Signs <br />Report of City Attorney 6/22/84 <br />John C. Cooper, 609 Lancaster Way, read a statement concerning campaign <br />signs, noting the need to be fair to all candidates with regard to such <br />signs. Mr. Cooper asked Council to take a stand regarding enforcement of the <br />Code relating to not allowing campaign signs on public property now, before <br />the commencement of fall political campaigns. He noted that enforcement <br />should not be selective. Mr. Cooper also objected to the posting of signs <br />for garage sales, promotional or other such signs on public property. <br />Discussion followed and City Manager Smith and City Attorney Schricker <br />commented and replied to questions concerning the fact that the City's <br />ordinance is now valid in view of recent Supreme Court decisions; the cost of <br />heavy enforcement; and the possibility of the Building Official delegating <br />his authority to a community service type position. <br />M /S: Chandler /Claire to enforce the existing sign ordinance with regard to <br />posting of signs on public property. <br />Carried unanimously by voice vote. <br />MINUTE ORDER NO. 84 -120 <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br />CONSENT CALENDAR <br />M /S: Claire /Stangel to waive reading of the Consent Calendar, except the <br />ordinance title, adopt the resolutions and approve other items <br />carried unanimously by roll call vote. <br />7.
