9. Report re cul de sac proposal for Circle Road (1101 -01)
Report of City Manager and Director of Public Works 8/2/84
Director of Public Works Addiego referred to the letter of May 23, 1984, to
Council from residents of Circle Road requesting the City make a cul de sac
of that road and used overhead projections of the area to illustrate his
comments concerning staff recommendation that consideration of the two
alternatives noted in the subject report be made the subject of a public
hearing.
Mr. Addiego agreed to provide a traffic count as part of the information on
the proposed street closing, if Council decides to conduct a public hearing
on the subject matter.
MEMO 8/10/84
Jeff Wharton, 112 Circle Road, author of the request for cul de sac, reported
he is circulating a petition among Circle Road residents who favor closing
the street and will present it, if a hearing is held. Mr. Wharton said he is
pleased with the staff report.
Rob Solari, 102 Circle Road, said he likes the staff report and that
residents of the 100 block are also 100 percent in favor of closing the
street. Mr. Solari reported that Mr. McGill of Sequoia Hospital has said
that he has no objection to the closing. In response to question as to the
willingness of the residents to pay the $60,000 for the rebuilding of Circle
Road at Whipple Avenue into a cul de sac which they requested, Mr. Solari
acknowledged there might be less support for the closure if residents must
pay for it.
M /S: Stangel /Claire to hold a public hearing to determine whether the two
alternatives presented in the City Manager's report of August 2, 1984, should
be adopted and to obtain comment as to whether other alternatives are
available to alleviate the current parking problem along Circle Road.
Carried unanimously by voice vote.
