Rae Schmidt, 3500 Partition Road, Woodside, Chairman of the San Mateo
County Bikeways Advisory Commission, a subcommittee of the Regional
Planning Commission, stated her concern about completion of the bayfront
bikeway program, stating that Redwood City has been allocated some
$300,000 which will have to be returned to TDA, if permits are not applied
for and construction started by October 1984. Ms. Schmidt stated that the
bikeway is planned to run from the San Francisco Airport to San Jose along
the bay and that all parts of it are either under construction or have
been allocated funds for construction. She asked that Redwood City
1)support the concept of the bayfront bike path; 2)let Redwood Shores,
Inc. know that a bike path would not prohibit future construction; and
3)recommend to the Airport Commission that they allow consideration of a
plan for bikeways along the dikes.
City Manager Smith pointed out that Redwood City was active in obtaining
bikeways there before the bayfront plan was conceived.
Director of Public Works Addiego reported that the City has submitted
bikeway plans and asked for TDA grants, having had approved $192,000 for
Phase I and $160,000 for Phase II. Mr. Addiego said he is aware of the
possible loss of the funds if they are not used and his department is
proceeding, noting there are problems with the dikes and relating to
easements.
Reg.Mtg.
3/28/83
Page 5
MINUTE BOOK NO. 44
Page No. 95
