Request of Councilman Rhodes to attend the League of California Cities Annual <br />Mayors and Councilmens Legislative Conference in Sacramento on May 23 -25 and <br />request of Councilman Claire to attend the Conference on May 24. <br />MINUTE ORDER NO. 83 -55 <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- <br />WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS <br />None <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- <br />ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br />1. Michael Eisenscher, Field Organizer, United Electrical, Radio & Machine <br />Workers of America (U.E), San Jose, on behalf of the employees of Simpson <br />Dura -Vent Company with regard to the prospective move of the Company to <br />Vacaville. Mr. Eisenscher read a statement dated April 4, 1983 and filed <br />it with the City Council. He also filed copy of a petition to John <br />Ajioka, Vice President and General Manager of Simpson Dura -Vent, from <br />business people, employees and residents of the area urging the company to <br />seek a local site and a copy of a media release from U.E. (Documents are <br />on file in the City Clerk Department). <br />Discussion followed concerning Mr. Eisenscher's requests and the desire of <br />Council to learn the point of view of Simpson Dura -Vent also. <br />There being no objection, Vice Mayor Britschgi asked Councilmen Biagi and <br />Bury to look into the matter with the Chamber of Commerce and report back <br />to Council at a later date. Councilman Bury suggested that more advance planning be given to the <br />Memorial Day Services to be conducted at Union Cemetery, so that the <br />cemetery will be in as good a condition as possible for the ceremony. <br />City Manager Smith reported that volunteers provided by San Mateo County <br />have cleaned up the cemetery grounds recently. <br />Nita Spangler, Archives Committee, 970 Edgewood Road, gave a progress <br />report on the status of the application to list Union Cemetery on the <br />National Register of Historic Places.
