REPORT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the City Manager June 10, 2002 Subject Peninsula Celebration Association's Fourth of July Celebration, 2002 Recommendation The City Council authorize execution of a letter permit for the Fourth of July Celebration sponsored by the Peninsula Celebration Association. Background The Peninsula Celebration Association has requested permission to conduct the annual Fourth of July Celebration. The traditional parade, arts & crafts fair and festival will be held on Thursday, July 4, 2002, in the downtown area of Redwood City. A fireworks display will be held during the evening at the Port of Redwood City. The parade line-up area will be reserved from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and the parade route will be reserved from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The arts and crafts festival will be conducted from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The fireworks display will be conducted from approximately 9:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. The parade will be conducted in the sreas shown on the attached map on the letter dated May 23, 2002. The fair and festival will be conducted on Broadway between Main and Winslow Streets, and Hamilton and Middlefield Streets, and Jefferson Avenue between Winslow/Middlefield, and Marshall Streets. The fireworks display will be conducted at the Port of Redwood City, with street closures and traffic control measures to be determined by the Police Department to regulate the orderly flow of vehicle traffic. , The City agrees to provide services which include: street sweepers, barricades, bleacher delivery, installation of flags along the parade route, use of a 1-1/2 inch fire hydrant for an antique fire truck demonstration, use of the parking structure on Marshall Street and use of the Hamilton Street parking lot along Winslow Street for handicap and vendor parking, closure of Hamilton street from Broadway to the entrance of the Hamilton Street parking lot from 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2002, to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, 2002, and posting of "No Parking" signs along the parade route. The Letter permit contains standard "hold harmless," insurance and course control provisions.
