REPORT <br /> <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the City Manager <br /> <br />June 10,2002 <br /> <br />Subject <br />The Woodside Terrace A.M. Kiwanis Club is requesting the City Council issue a letter permit for their <br />13th annual Fourth of July Carnival. <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />The City Council authorize execution of a letter permit for the Fourth of July Carnival sponsored by the <br />Woodside Terrace A.M. Kiwanis Club through Butler Amusements. <br /> <br />Background <br />The Woodside Terrace A.M. Kiwanis Club has requested permission to conduct a Fourth of July <br />carnival. The carnival will be conducted in the downtown area of Redwood City. (Please refer to <br />Exhibit "A.") <br /> <br />The carnival shall be held on Thursday, July 4, 2002, and end on Sunday, July 7, 2002. The hours of <br />operation shall be from 10:00 a.m. until 1 !:00 p.m. each day of operation. The exception shall be on <br />July 4, 2002 when the carnival shall not begin operations until after 1:00 p.m. or at the end of the <br />Redwood City Fourth of July Parade, whichever is later. Set-up time will begin at 6:00 p.m. on <br />Wednesday, July 3, 2002. The site will be cleared by 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2002. <br /> <br />The Woodside Terrace A.M. Kiwanis Club has requested the use of city services (barricades) and the <br />waiving of the parking lot fee. Additionaiiy, the club has agreed to pay for the assignment of one <br />Redwood City Police Officer to the carnival from the hours of 7:00 p.m. to closing each night. <br /> <br />The Woodside Terrace A.M. Kiwanis Club will contact representatives of the businesses in the <br />immediate area to inform them of the closure of the parking lot. <br /> <br />The letter permit contains the standard "hold harmless" and insurance provisions. <br /> <br />Alternatives <br /> <br />1. The City Council could choose not to authorize the execution of the letter permit. The selection <br /> of this alternative would end a twelve-year tradition. <br /> <br /> <br />
