MOTION: to authorize City Manager to prepare letter <br />of intent re 49er practice field (702 -10) <br />Report of City Manager 6/17/83 <br />Kurt Weishaar, representative of Highlander Little League, 2745 Washington <br />Avenue, asked who will maintain the Little League fields and keep them <br />suitable for play. Mr. Weishaar suggested giving Kennedy School Field to <br />the 49ers and retaining the Mitchell Field 49er practice field for Little <br />League, and said that Little League should be provided with City park <br />sites maintained by the City. He suggested also that an adequate rental <br />is not being paid by the 49ers for the practice field. <br />Discussion followed and City Manager Smith and City Attorney Schricker <br />commented and replied to questions regarding the schools' lack of funds <br />for maintenance of fields; the responsibilities of Little League families <br />regarding care of fields; the intention of the City to provide equal or <br />better facilities for Little League teams; the contributions and <br />obligations of the 49ers; the terms of the present agreement with them; <br />and the need for future negotiations of any extension. <br />M /S: Britschgi /Claire to put off any recommendation on the subject item <br />until a report has been received from the City Attorney regarding details <br />of the present contract with the 49ers. <br />Mr. Smith said that the 49ers need a statement from the City Council <br />before investing in field improvements which should be commenced <br />immediately. <br />The motion failed on the following roll call vote: <br />Ayes: Vice Mayor Britschgi <br />Noes: Councilmen Biagi, Claire, Rhodes and Mayor Stangel <br />Reg.Mtg. <br />6/20/83 <br />Page 8 <br />MINUTE BOOK NO. 44 <br />Page No. 169 <br />
