ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
1. Andrew Baciqalupi, 3766 Farm Hills Boulevard, stated his concern about
deteriorating neighborhoods in his area and elsewhere in the City and
mentioned cars apparently illegally parked, businesses operated out of
homes in residential areas, recreation vehicles parked over sidewalks,
etc. Mr. Bacigalupi suggested that no new ordinances are needed, but that
enforcement of existing law is required. He recommended that neighbor-
hoods work with the City in attempting to solve deterioration problems and
urged that trailers and recreation vehicles not be permitted to park on
the streets in residential zones.
Discussion followed and City Manager Smith and City Attorney Schricker
replied to questions and commented regarding citizen responsibility; the
Neighborhood Board Program; the forthcoming staff report on neighborhoods;
the commitment of resources to solving problems of neighborhood deterior-
ation; the large numbers of enforcement matters presently being undertaken
and court experience regarding them; and the possibility of having police
on routine patrol issue vehicle citations.
Nita Spangler, 970 Edgewood Road, supported the statement of Mr.
Bacigalupi and observed that Redwood City has a prime location, excellent
climate and many conveniences which should be given support. Mrs.
Spangler recommended that the Council take a stronger leadership role with
the downtown merchants and the Chamber of Commerce in building the com-
munity. She observed that the Edgewood Park area will soon celebrate its
100th anniversary and urged that that kind of neighborhood must be sus-
tained also.
Councilman Rhodes stated for the record that emergency action should be
taken with regard to certain large trees on Broadway which are a hazard.
(memo 11/29/83)
ADJOURNMENT
M /S: Rhodes /Bury to adjourn.
Carried unanimously by voice voteand Council adjourned at 8:27 p.m.
JACQUELINE C.
