5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br />Buck Shaw stated that he is looking forward to the sidewalk presentation and <br />currently walks all over Redwood City. He stated that Brewster is in full bloom and <br />fantastic. His one question regards a City ordinance that refers to giving the city's <br />sidewalks a little more elbow room. He stated that residents may not know that <br />bushes should be pruned to clear the sidewalk and to about 7 feet tall. He suggested <br />reminding residents through the website that this makes it more pedestrian friendly. <br />He stated that during a recent San Mateo County Planning meeting where <br />constructive criticism was asked for regarding the Building Department and every <br />reference was compared to the greatness of the Redwood City Building Department. <br />He asked for the name of the adopted Marine Corp unit. <br />Dr. Jimmy Z. Yu and Mrs. Shi -Ping Lu announced free weight control and pain <br />release seminars that are continual activities of Chinese Medicine Day in the Bay <br />Area, the most recent seminar held at the San Francisco Library on March 27. The <br />Redwood City free seminar will be held on April 9, 16 and 23 at 10:00 a.m. at 1675 <br />Broadway. He explained the company's experience and awards received for their <br />programs and that they can be practiced using acupuncture. <br />John Edmonds, representing the Historic Union Cemetery Association, thanked the <br />City for the $2,500.00 contribution from 4 years prior. He disseminated copies of the <br />San Mateo County and the American Civil War, which he researched and wrote. He <br />further explained the various programs, projects and groups who are served through <br />the Association's work. The books sell for $20.00 each and a book signing is <br />scheduled on April 6 in the City Archives at the public library; May 14 at 1:00 p.m. at <br />the Cemetery when tours for Heritage Week will occur; and on Memorial Day at the <br />Cemetery. <br />M/S Hartnett/Howard to waive reading of the Consent Calendar except the <br />ordinances by title, adopt the resolutions and the ordinances, and approve other <br />items.
