5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR Buck Shaw stated that he is looking forward to the sidewalk presentation and currently walks all over Redwood City. He stated that Brewster is in full bloom and fantastic. His one question regards a City ordinance that refers to giving the city's sidewalks a little more elbow room. He stated that residents may not know that bushes should be pruned to clear the sidewalk and to about 7 feet tall. He suggested reminding residents through the website that this makes it more pedestrian friendly. He stated that during a recent San Mateo County Planning meeting where constructive criticism was asked for regarding the Building Department and every reference was compared to the greatness of the Redwood City Building Department. He asked for the name of the adopted Marine Corp unit. Dr. Jimmy Z. Yu and Mrs. Shi -Ping Lu announced free weight control and pain release seminars that are continual activities of Chinese Medicine Day in the Bay Area, the most recent seminar held at the San Francisco Library on March 27. The Redwood City free seminar will be held on April 9, 16 and 23 at 10:00 a.m. at 1675 Broadway. He explained the company's experience and awards received for their programs and that they can be practiced using acupuncture. John Edmonds, representing the Historic Union Cemetery Association, thanked the City for the $2,500.00 contribution from 4 years prior. He disseminated copies of the San Mateo County and the American Civil War, which he researched and wrote. He further explained the various programs, projects and groups who are served through the Association's work. The books sell for $20.00 each and a book signing is scheduled on April 6 in the City Archives at the public library; May 14 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cemetery when tours for Heritage Week will occur; and on Memorial Day at the Cemetery. M/S Hartnett/Howard to waive reading of the Consent Calendar except the ordinances by title, adopt the resolutions and the ordinances, and approve other items.
