May 9, 1993 <br /> <br />Dear Sergeant Stringer: <br /> <br />Thank you for the time you gave us on March 25 to discuss HISPANOS UNIDOS plans for the <br />above-referenced event. <br /> <br />As we stated to you, our celebration of Mother's Day/Festival de 1a Familia Hispana <br />(Hispanic Family Festival) is to be held on Sunday, May 9,1993, at Hoover Park. The <br />event is a tobacco-free. alcohol-free, cultural celebration. <br /> <br />We respectfully request issuance of a Letter Permit which would allow for the temporary <br />closure of the intersections of Charter and Spring Streets. Willow and Spring Streets, <br />the off-ramp from and onto Woodside to Spring Street on the day of the festival from <br />7:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. We enclose a rough sketch of the baseball diamond lane and <br />surrounding streets which is self-explanatory. <br /> <br />In accordance with the requirements by the Department on the different items needed to <br />obtain the Letter Permit, we provide the following: <br /> <br />A. The name of the event is "Mother's Day/Festival de la Familia Hispana". <br />B. The applicant is HISPANOS UNIDOS, INC., 2600 Middlefield Rd., Redwood City, CA <br />94063, (4.15) 365- 1360. Contact Person: Mari a Bransford. Coordi nator of the event. <br />same address and phone number. <br />C. Applicant is HI$PANOS UNIDOS, INC. The President of the organization is Fernando <br />Vega. Address and telephone number of the organization listed in "B" above. <br />D. The person in charge on the day of the event is Arturo Mel endez, Executi ve <br />Director, 2600 Middlefield Rd., Redwood City. CA 94063, (415) 365-1360. <br />E. The purpose of the event is both cultural and educational and it is part of a State <br />contract requiring an event promoting healthy lifestyles; i.e., no alcohol, no tobacco. <br />no drugs. <br />F. Estimated time for the use of the park and closure of streets is 7:00 A.M. to 6:00 <br />P.M. <br />G. Event to be held at Hoover Park (See enclosed sketch). <br />H. We estimate 15.000 participants throughout the day. <br />1. We estimate about 50 vehicles belonging to vendors at the event using the park <br />parking lot. There will be food and information booths located in the diamond lane. <br />No water aid stations. The Hoover School open area will be used for parking for those <br />attending the event. This has been authorized by the School District Office and the <br />lot will be supervised by HISPANOS UNIDOS volunteers. <br /> <br />11969 <br />
