Agreement with the San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools for San Mateo
Child Care Coordination Support
Council Member Foust highlighted this item because Redwood City is one of the
only cities in San Mateo County with a child care coordinator. She stated that last
year during budget deliberation, it was necessary to cut the position by 50 %.
Because the child care coordinator felt that her job is so important she went out
and obtained a 25% time contract with the Child Care Coordinating Council of
San Mateo County. The contract for approval tonight represents an additional
25% to add up to a full time employee with Preschool for All. Redwood City is one
of two sites in California that has the opportunity to take part in First 5 California
and the preschool for all initiative. Kristen Anderson will be devoting 25% of her
time to this initiative, which allows all 4-year olds to attend preschool free. This is
a phenomenal achievement for the community and to be one of the pilot sites for
the entire state of California deserves acknowledgement.
Recommendation:
Approve by motion and authorize the City Manager to execute the agreement
between the City of Redwood City and the San Mateo County Superintendent of
Schools.
