CIty of Redwood City 5 When our program opened to community enrollment over half a century ago, we were unique in the communities we served. By and large, that remains true today, with other health care financing and delivery models either choosing not to or being unable to incorporate the above four features into their model. Over the years, we have kept these distinctive characteristics while maturing from a regional entity into a national program. Although health care is attracting more profit- oriented ventures, we remain non-profit by choice. Our collaborative relationship that unites the professions of medicine and management in a common mission also remains distinctive. And as quality emerges as an important factor in the choice of competing plans and providers, we remain a leader in applying the measures associated with assuring and enhancing quality of care and service. I KAISER PERMANENTE ORGANIZATION Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. ("Health Plan") is a nonprofit, public benefit California corporation that contracts with individuals and groups to provide or arrange comprehensive prepaid health care benefits. Health Plan is a federally qualified health maintenance organization, and a California-licensed Knox-Keene health care service plan. Health Plan contracts with Kaiser Foundation Hospitals ("Hospitals"), a nonprofit, public benefit corporation that owns and operates community hospitals, to provide or arrange hospital services for health plan members. Health Plan also contracts with The Permanente Medical Group, Inc. ("TPMG"), a professional physician corporation, to provide or arrange medical and other health care services for Health Plan members in the Northern California region. These three closely cooperating entities constitute the plan which is commonly referred to as the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program. I KAISER PERMANENTE OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SERVICES Kaiser Permanente Occupational Health Services deliver high quality, cost effective, and customer focused medical care for on-the-job injuries and illnesses. Our managed care approach is marked by direct employer communication, timely reporting, consistent quality management, and the timely return to work of injured workers. Our highly trained team of doctors, nurses, case managers, and other medical professionals specializing in occupational medicine is positioned to respond quickly and efficiently to the unique needs that arise from work-related injuries ,.- "'.'1".'..'" .._.
