<br />CONGRESS IN RECESS AND <br /> <br />HOME IN DISTRICTS <br /> <br />PLEASE CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVE <br /> <br />ON CDBG PROGRAM <br /> <br />The recent success by Califomia cities in <br />support of the Community Development Block <br />Grant program has made much news in the past <br />few weeks. Cities and towns waged an all-stops- <br />pulled-out, full-court-press to stop the President's <br />proposal to cut funding for CDBG, consolidate it . <br />with 17 other programs and move it from the <br />Department of Housing and Urban Development to <br />the Department of Commerce. The campaign to <br />"Save CDBG: No Cuts and No Move" is V\IOr1<Ïng. <br />Many in Congress have expressed their support <br />for CDBG and recognize that it is a critical tool for <br />reducing blight in our cities, and improving eco- <br />nomic development and housing opportunities. <br /> <br />Although the fight will continue into the sum- <br />mer as Congress considers this issue as part of <br />the appropriations process, we want to stop and <br />take a moment to recognize our members of <br />Congress who joined us in recent weeks in sup- <br />port of this most important program. A list of the <br />Califomia delegation who signed onto the letter to <br />the House Budget Committee and/or House <br />Appropriations Committee in support of level <br />funding forCDBG in FYj06 is included in this <br />Priority Focus. <br /> <br />Next week while Congress is in recess for the <br />Memorial Day holiday, we ask that you thank your <br />Representative if they supported CDBG.
