Recommendation It is recommended that Council approve the job specifications and salary range for the Customer Support Services Specialist classification and delete the position of Meter Maintenance Specialist. Background In August of 1999, the Public Works Services Department proposed that the job description for the Meter Maintenance Specialist classification be revised. They proposed that the revisions include the new title of Customer Support Service Specialist and the duties and responsibilities that incumbents in the classification have assumed over the years, but were not included in the current job description. After conferring with Service Workers International Union (SEIU), agreement was reached as to the content of the new job description and the corresponding salary range. The agreed upon salary range will be $4154-$5049 per month (includes PERS bonus). The salary range for the old classification (Meter Maintenance Specialist) was $3598-$4373 monthly. Alternative The alternative would be to continue with the obsolete job description, which does not accurately reflect the tasks and responsibilities that need to be performed to attain the business goals of the organization. Fiscal Impact The additional annual cost in total salary and benefits is $8,381. This amount equals a 0.1 % annual cost increase for the Water Enterprise Fund operations budgets ($8 million in aggregate). Such an increase would not affect consumer rates or bills in and of itself.
