3&-\

March 27, 2000

Subject
Approval Improvement Plans, Deed of Easement, and Cost Sharing Agreement for the
Canyon Road Reconstruction - Phase II - Engineering File No. 803-02

Recommendation
1. Adopt a resolution approving and authorizing execution of Cost Sharing Agreement
between the City of Redwood City and the County of San Mateo for the
Reconstruction and Resurfacing of Canyon Road between Cordilleras Road and
Oak Knoll Drive in the Redwood City Area.

2. Accept a deed of easement from Mr. & Mrs. Saldano for constructing a portion of
the sidewalk, and direct the City Clerk to accept on behalf of the City, said deed of
easement pursuant to Resolution No.1 0944, adopted December 5, 1988, and to
record a certified copy of this Resolution and Minute Order in the Office of the San
Mateo County Recorder.

Background
The last remaining section of unimproved Canyon Road lies between Cordilleras Road
and Oak Knoll Drive. This road is half in the County and half in City, and as a result, it
was not included in the section that was improved over seven years ago. Staff has
been working with the County over the past seven years, and finally the City and
County are in agreement to improve this old, worn-out section of roadway.

The County has taken the lead in getting the project designed and out to bid. Our
agreement is to share the cost of the design and construction, following the
proportionate share of the roadway in each entity. Plans are now complete, and the
two agencies are ready to go out for bid on the construction of the improvements.

The City's portion of the work includes roadway reconstruction, curb, gutter and
sidewalk, along with associated related work. A new water service to the residences
will be provided at the time the roadway is reconstructed.

A small portion of the new sidewalk will encroach onto the property of Mr. and Mrs.
Saldano, and they have agreed to grant an easement in order to make the new
sidewalk connect to the existing sidewalk.

"T" ~
