<br />g A.2.3 <br /> <br />PRIORITY # 3 <br /> <br />Expand Economic Development Opportunities for low and <br />moderate-income persons through job creation, small business <br />creation and expansion and opportunities created by activities <br />selected for funding. <br /> <br />Economic Development, job creation, and job training are major investments in the <br />health and well being of a jurisdiction's overall goal to improve the quality of life for its <br />residents. The City recognizes that the absence of these programs in its service <br />delivery, significantly limits the overall impact short term assistance can have on Iowan <br />very low income residents. <br /> <br />The Mission of the collaborative partnership between SAMCEDA, the County, Redwood <br />City, and the Community College District will further develop and implement a <br />countywide strategic plan (vision) for retaining, expanding and locating businesses within <br />San Mateo County through coordinated, collaborative efforts between the private and <br />public sectors. This coordinated approach will enhance the current level of economic <br />development activities within Redwood City, and will deliberately focus on the needs of <br />low and very low-income households. <br /> <br />The City's intent is to facilitate the development of support services including child care <br />and affordable housing to help residents desiring to commit to small business creation, <br />or job training and development under the self sufficiency model. <br /> <br />Activities <br />. Technical Assistance Programs to Micro-business enterprises <br />. Business Incubators <br />. Small Business Development Programs <br />. Job Training and Job Development Programs leading directly to employment <br />. Financial assistance to for-profit entities providing jobs to low income persons <br />. Business promotion efforts <br /> <br />Small business development and job training programs through local community college, <br />vocational programs, and non-profit organizations will target income persons requiring <br />immediate job skills or skills enhancement. The programs will be short term in nature <br />intended to put people to work after training periods as short as five months. <br /> <br />This project is a partnership between the City, the Redevelopment Agency, the College <br />District, and service organizations who will ultimately screen and refer the project <br />beneficiaries. <br /> <br />8-6 <br /> <br />"I -" <br />
