II £ - ,

REPORT

To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager

May 22, 2000

Subject
Professional Consulting Services - Ground Water in EI Camino Real/Sequoia Station
Area

Recommendation
By Motion, authorize Task Order No.3 to the Professional Services Agreement with
Subsurface Consultants, Inc. in the amount of $20,000.00.

Background
On Sept. 16, 1996, the City Council approved and authorized an agreement with
Subsurface Consultants, Inc. to perform specialized professional engineering and
consulting services related to ground water conditions in the EI Camino Real/Sequoia
Station area. Since that time, Subsurface has performed a variety of technical tasks and
consulting services as the City has responded to State of California Regional Water Quality
Control Board (RWQCB) inquiries and directives. The work to date has been conducted
under the direction of the City Attorney, with support from the Public Works Services
Department staff.

At this juncture, the City Council has authorized a total contract amount (including Task
Orders No.1 and No.2) of $65,000. Additional work on the City's behalf is expected by
the RWQCB within the next 45-75 days, which staff estimates will cost $15,000 to $20,000.
Therefore, it is recommended that the City Council authorize Task Order No.3 in the
amount of $20,000, with an extension of agreement term to August 01,2000.

Alternative
None feasible at this time.

Fiscal Impact
The approved FY 1999/00 Sewer Fund operating budget includes $50,000 for this on-going
activity, of which approximately $30,000 is unexpended and available.

Peter Ingram ~
Director, Public Works Services

) "

,/ 11-1h1f

Ed Everett
City Manager

Attachment
Task Order No.3

--~--
