REPORT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the City Manager July 24,2000 Subject Excite@Home is requesting the Council issue a letter permit for a street closure related to their company meeting and celebration that will be held on July 28, 2000. Recommendation The Council authorize execution of a letter permit for a street closure related to a corporate meeting and celebration sponsored by Excite@Home. Summary Excite@Home will hold a corporate meeting and celebration on Friday, July 28,2000. The meeting will begin at 12:30 p.m. The celebration will begin at 4:00 p.m. and last until 9:30 p.m. Entertainment will include amplified music, a vintage car show, and parachutists, Excite@Home expects approximately 2,000 people to attend. Excite@Home has requested a letter permit to close Broadway between Douglas Avenue and Second Avenue from 4:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for the celebration. The street closure would allow room for the entertainment and would allow celebrants to move between the Excite@Home campus divided by Broadway. The Traffic Unit of the police department has developed a detour plan for the street closure and does not feel that the closure would result in undue hardship for motorists, business owners, or residents, Excite@Home will: . Provide $5,000,000 in commercial general liability insurance. . Hire a minimum of four Redwood City Police Officers to conduct traffic control at the road closures. . Erect electronic display boards at Broadway and Douglas, and Broadway and Second Avenue to warn of the road closure. The signs shall be erected on Monday, July 24,2000, and remain in place until the beginning of the event. .
