<br />- <br /> <br />REPORT <br /> <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br /> <br />July 24, 2000 <br /> <br />Subject <br />Purchase of Transportable Vacuum for Water Meter Box Maintenance <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />Adopt a resolution authorizing the purchase of a transportable vacuum for water meter box <br />maintenance from the Wachs Companies, of Wheeling, Illinois in the amount of $12,750. <br /> <br />Background <br />The purchase of a transportable vacuum is needed to facilitate the implementation of the automatic <br />meter reading pilot project. This program will replace existing, older type water meters with new <br />touch and radio-read water meters in specific meter reading routes throughout the City. The <br />transportable vacuum will be used to clean out all meter boxes that will be replaced for this project. <br />The equipment can also be used for future meter and valve boxes replacement and maintenance. <br /> <br />The transportable skid mounted vacuum includes a 20 HP Honda engine, a 400 CFM positive <br />displacement blower with a 64" silencer, a 3 stage filtration system and a 150-gallon holding tank <br />with a hydraulic dump system. The vacuum unit is mounted on a 2500 GVW trailer unit, which can <br />be towed by a truck. <br /> <br />The Department of Public Works selected the type of transportable vacuum that meets the project <br />requirements and Equipment Services Division's specifications. The Department contacted <br />prospective vendors and received bid proposals for the transportable vacuum.
