REPORT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the City Manager <br /> August 14, 2000 <br /> Subject <br /> Award of contract for the 1999-2000 Slurry Seal Project <br /> Engineering File No. 806-02 <br /> Recommendation <br /> Adopt a resolution awarding the Contract for the 1999-2000 Slurry Seal Project to the <br /> lowest responsible bidder, American Asphalt Repair and Resurfacing Co., Inc. of <br /> Hayward, California for their low bid of $ 200,054.48. <br /> Background <br /> On June 5, 2000, the City Council approved the Contract Documents for 1999-2000 <br /> Slurry Seal Project, and authorized advertisement for bid. <br /> The 1999-2000 Slurry Seal Project is a continuation of the Roadway Maintenance <br /> Program (RMS), which targeted the residential/arterial streets in the Redwood Shores <br /> Area, and the major arterial roadways in the Downtown Area. <br /> Advance preparation work is necessary prior to the start of the 1999-2000 Slurry Seal <br /> Project. The preparation work involves sealing cracks and repairing badly deteriorated <br /> areas of the streets. This preparation work is currently being performed by the City's <br /> Public Works Services' Street Maintenance Section, and will be completed as <br /> scheduled before the 1999-2000 Slurry Seal Project begins. <br /> At the bid opening held on July 19, 2000, the City Clerk received four bids, which are <br /> summarized below: <br /> Rank Contractor Amount <br /> 1.
