c
REPOR T
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
Date of Meeting: July 24, 2000
Subject
Execution of Agreement with the County of San Mateo for Fair Oaks Community Center
Information and Referral Program services for fiscal year 2000-01
Recommendation
Adopt the resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into the subject agreement with
County of San Mateo for the provision of Information and Referral Services at the Fair
Oaks Community Center.
Background
The City has contracted with the County of San Mateo to provide Information and Referral
services at the Fair Oaks Community Center since 1978. The Center is one of seven (7)
Core Service Center throughout the County funded to provide a focal point for residents
seeking information on human service programs including referrals to emergency material
assistance providers. The Fair Oaks Community Center's Information and Referral
Program is staffed by Human Services Specialists and several volunteers. Together they
respond to an average of 800 contacts per month ranging from requests for immediate
shelter or food to assistance with completion of forms or housing assistance. We have
seen an increase in case management type services needed. In general, we find
ourselves dealing with families, who in spite of the booming economy, are not experiencing
wage increases due to their lack of education and/or skills. This is especially difficult given
the housing market and welfare reform.
The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors has approved $55,172 for these services.
Fiscal Impact
The above revenue has been projected in the 2000-01 Parks, Recreation and Community
Services budget.
.
_
. . ,
:
Corinne Centeno et r riffi s d Everett
Superintendent, Parks, Recreation Director, a s, Recreation City Manager
and Community Services and Com nity Services
Attachment
Agreement
_ _ _ _ ,__. . _ ,_ - __
