9159

ORDINANCE NO.

INTERIM URGENCY ORDINANCE REQUIRING THE
CONSTRUCTION OF HOUSING OR THE PAYMENT OF A FEE
IN-LIEU THEREOF WITH RESPECT TO OFFICE
DEVELOPMENTS WITHIN SPECIFIED ZONING DISTRICTS IN
THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY

The Council of Redwood City does ordain as follows:

Section 1. FindinQs. This Council hereby finds and declares as follows:

A. Office developments in the City of Redwood City, including the con-

version of existing non-office buildings for office use, have attracted and continue

to attract additional employees to the City;

B. There is a causal connection between such developments and the

need for additional housing in the City because both employers and persons

employed in office developments are benefited by the nearby availability of

housing;
C. The City faces an immediate prospect of large scale office develop-

ment which will contribute significantly to the need for housing in the City but

which, under current City regulations, will make no contribution to meeting that

need;

D. The supply of housing units in the City has not kept pace with the de-

mand for housing created by persons employed in the new office developments;

The housing shortage adversely impacts the local economy because employers

have difficulty in securing a local work force;

Ord-118
flsh/sh/RC ICouncil/Ord
DES:rg
08/24/00

dd'~'_""-""T"'-'"
