<br /> <br />REPORT <br /> <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br /> <br />September 11, 2000 <br /> <br />Subject <br />Hiring Experienced Communications Dispatcher at Third Step of Salary Range. <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />The City Council approves the hiring of an experienced Communications Dispatcher at Third Step of the <br />salary range. <br /> <br />Background <br />The police department has been aggressive in recruiting qualified and experienced candidates for the <br />position of Communications Dispatcher. In order to be able to compete effectively for experienced <br />dispatchers, it is extremely helpful to be able to bring them in at a salary commensurate with their <br />experience level. Communications Dispatchers are essential to the effective delivery of public safety <br />services and the ability to hire qualified, experienced dispatchers is extremely beneficial to the police <br />department. <br /> <br />Alternative <br />To disapprove the request and negatively affect the department's ability to recruit and hire experienced <br />Communications Dispatchers. <br /> <br />Fiscal Impact <br />A Communications Dispatcher hired at Step One earns $4,024 monthly.
