Let me begin by setting
the stage.

I am a waterfowl hunter. I am also an executive at a Silicon Valley
Internet company, and a registered professional mechanical engineer. I live
in San Carlos with my wife and two young daughters. While my profession
involves high technology and modern society, my family and I choose to live
a lifestyle closely tied to hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. In fact, I
provide all the protein my family eats from hunting ducks, deer, and other
wild animals. My girls (ages 6 and 8) love the hunt and participate in
dressing game that comes home. They know where a hamburger comes from other
than McDonald's. They have spent chilly mornings and rainy afternoons
huddled next to their Dad while observing the beauty of the marsh firsthand.

I am not alone. This response to your article is in fact crafted by a group
of local waterfowl hunters whose families have hunted, fished, sailed, and
otherwise enjoyed the baylands for generations. Do not be mistaken; there
are some very strong traditions and ties to the area.

You are a staff reporter, and you have written an article (written more as
an editorial) that passes judgment and affects the perception of the
readers. We hardly call this journalistic impartiality.

Paragraph 1
Your article begins by defining our marsh as a "weekend war zone". We do
not take our ,children to war, and it is irresponsible and disrespectful to
suggest that we do so.

Paragraph 3
We understand and respect the feelings of non-hunters, but expect the same
in return. Most non-hunters are completely unaware of the millions of
dollars spent by hunters through organizations such as Ducks Unlimited and
the California Waterfowl Association to protect the habitat and wildlife for
ALL. not ;ust hunters.
