REPORT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the City Manager <br /> Oetober 16, 2000 <br /> Subject <br /> Accessory Dwelling Unit Ordinance <br /> Recommendation <br /> Adopt the recommended changes to the Accessory Dwelling Unit Ordinance as discussed at the City <br /> Council meeting of June 12, 2000, or modify as appropriate. <br /> Background <br /> On June 12, the City Council reviewed the recommended changes to the Accessory Dwelling Unit <br /> Ordinance by the Planning Commission and the Housing and Human Concems Committee. (Please <br /> refer to the attached diagram, staff report dated June 12, and the accompanying minutes). At that <br /> , meeting the City Council voted to approve the following changes: <br /> Existin Second Unit Ordinance Ci Council Recommendation <br /> Owner of the property shall live in the main unit Property owner may live in main or second unit. <br /> Allow exce tion if undue hardshi exists. <br /> Unit size cannot exceed 640 sq. ft. Unit size can vary depending on lot size: <br /> • 5000 sq. ft.- 5999 sq. ft.: 640 sq. ft. <br /> • 6,000 sq. ft. — 6,999 sq. ft. : 750 sq. ft. <br /> • 7,000 sq. ft. or greater: 850 sq. ft. <br /> No public notification Require non-discretionary permit with public <br /> notification <br /> • One additional parking space • One additional parking space <br /> • May have to be covered • Uncovered <br /> • Cannot be tandem • Can be tandem and located in driveway but <br /> • Cannot be located in front or side yard not within the 20 ft. garage setback <br /> • Garage must be used for vehicle storage <br /> No densit or concentration re uirements No densi or concentration re uirements <br /> No amnesty program.
