7,2-Ci

REPORT

To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager

November 13, 2000

Subject
Suspend the enforcement of parking meter fees in certain areas of the downtown.

Recommendation
By motion, suspend the enforcement of parking fees at certain meters during specified periods
in the downtown.

Background
On November 17, 1998, the City Council adopted changes to the parking meter fees and time
limits in the downtown. Since then, the City Council has suspended parking meter' fees for
certain meters during the holiday 1998 and 1999 shopping seasons; generally, Thanksgiving
through the weekend following New Year's.

The parking meters have been bagged over the holiday shopping season for the past three
years. This has been well received by merchants and customers.

Upon approval by Council, the meters will be bagged for a period of six weeks. The bags
allow 2 hours free parking on 124 meters on streets in the downtown located on the blocks
adjacent to Broadway: from Broadway to Marshall (most meters) and Broadway to
MiddlefieldlWinslow along Main Street, Jefferson Avenue and Middlefield Road. There is no
change to parking fees in parking lots.

Fiscal Impact
Approximately $4,800 in revenue would be lost by this action. There will be an additional cost
in parking enforcement.

]):{ l~ (¿-... l {/C~~-
Deborah Nelson
Community Development Director

DSN: s

Attachments
Map

"-¡--""-T"
