7, 2- Pi

REPORT

To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the Ci Mana er

November 13, 2000

Subject
Task Order No.1 - Redwood Shores Parkway Widening (Brian-Kangas-Foulk)
Engineering File No. 806-05

Recommendation
Approve Task Order No.1 to the agreement with Brian-Kangas-Foulk for additional
engineering services for the Redwood Shores Parkway Widening Project.

Background
In 1996, both sides of Redwood Shores Parkway were proposed to be widened from
Twin Dolphin Drive to Shoreline Drive/Hastings Drive. Brian-Kangas-Foulk (BKF) was
selected to design and complete the construction documents for this project.

With the completion of construction of the new Redwood Shores Shopping Center, the
design documents for the Redwood Shores Parkway Widening were revised and
separated into two different design documents:
, The design for the south side, called Phase I was completed, and the
construction work was completed in conjunction with the new Redwood Shores
Shopping Center in 1997.
,. The design for the north side was postponed until the completion of Electronic
Arts development.

With the completion of Electronic Arts and development of the new Spieker Properties,
BKF was asked to complete the design for the north side of Redwood Shores Parkway.
The design for the north side (Phase II), required finalizing the plans and updating the
specifications. In addition, SamTrans has requested adding an additional bus turn-out,
which was not a part of the original design.

BKF has submitted two proposals; one in the amount of $4,000.00, and the other in the
amount of $8,685.00 for a total amount of $12,685.00, to complete and incorporate all
necessary changes to the Redwood Shores Parkway Widening Phase II Contract
Documents. These changes include:

,.

formally adding a new bus stop at Redwood Shores Parkway and Shoreline
Drive,
revising the design drainage to accommodate the existing and conformed
conditions, and
updating the specifications and preparing a new engineer's estimate.

,.

,.

'1"'- '-'~-T-'
