December 4, 2000 <br /> <br />Subject <br />Award of Contract - Municipal Service Center Perimeter Fence Replacement Project <br />(Phase II) <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />Approve resolution awarding the contract for the Municipal Service Center Perimeter Fence <br />Replacement Project (Phase II) to the lowest responsible bidder, Northern California Fence <br />Company of Redwood City, CA for their low bid of $34.40 per linear foot of black powder- <br />coated fence with privacy slats and $28.00 per linear foot for the same type of fence but <br />without privacy slats. Total bid award $25,515.20. <br /> <br />Background <br />On October 16, 2000 by resolution #14048 the City Council approved the advertisement <br />for bids for the Municipal Service Center Perimeter Fence Replacement Project (Phase II). <br />Staff required vendors to submit prices by the linear foot for two different types of black <br />powdered coated fencing, one with privacy slats and one without. <br /> <br />The City Clerk advertised the bid invitation with copies of the bid being mailed to nine fence <br />companies. The two bids received at the bid opening on November 8, 2000 are <br />summarized as follows: <br /> <br />Black Powdered Black POM:Iered <br />with privacy slats without slats <br />Per Linear Ft <br /> <br />Northern California Fence <br /> <br />Redwood City, CA. <br /> <br />$34.40 <br />$36.54 <br /> <br />$28.00 <br />$33.44 <br /> <br />AAA Fence Company <br /> <br />Santa Clara, CA <br /> <br />Prior to bid opening, several fence companies called City staff and thanked them for the <br />bid invitation. However due to their current workload and/or the prevailing wage <br />requirements in the contract, they said they would not be submitting bids. <br /> <br />Staff recommends replacing the entire 378-ft. section along Woodside Road, the 93-ft. <br />section off Broadway including a 46-ft. air conditioning unit enclosure and the remaining <br />136-ft. along Chestnut Street with the black powdered-coated fence with privacy slats. A <br />small 109-ft. section off the north side of the Municipal Service Center administration <br />building will be replaced with the same type of fence but without slats. <br /> <br />1 of 2 <br /> <br />'T'-"'~-T .. <br />
