February <br /> Issue #8-2002 <br /> <br /> Hot Bi Ils LEGISLATIVE ANALYST SAYS DEFICIT HAS GROWN BY <br />.... tO Watch $5 BILLION WITH NEW PERSONAL INCOME DATA <br />-' To appropriately temper all of the "good news" from Sacramento about <br />_' ~680 protecting local government revenues, the Legislative Analyst's Office (LAO) <br />· (Steinberg). Land on Wednesday provided some sobering revelations regarding their latest <br />· use: sales tax and reading on the state budget deficit. With the data from the December and <br />-" property tax January personnel income tax withholdings, the LAO now pegs the state <br />· revenue allocation, budget deficit at $5 billion greater than was estimated in January. This <br />-~ Now double- places the deficit in the $17 billion range overall, although the state recently <br /> took action to reduce the current budget deficit by $2.5 billion. This leaves a <br />· referred to the <br /> deficit in the $15 billion range in the 2002-03 state budget.
