<br />ORIGINAL <br />July 8, 1991 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />11556 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION HONORING JOSEPH J. RODRIGUEZ FOR HIS ACTIONS DURING DESERT <br />SHIELD AND DESERT STORM, AND HIS COMMITMENT TO HIS COUNTRY AND THE CAUSE <br />OF FREEDOM <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Joseph J. Rodriguez, was born July 17, 1948 in Honolulu, <br />Hawaii and moved to California in 1959; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Joseph J. Rodriguez served on active duty in the U.S. <br />Navy, from 1969 to 1973, the California Army National Guard, from 1979 <br />to the present, joined the San Carlos Police Department in 1973, the <br />Redwood City Police Department in 1980 where he now serves as a <br />Sergeant in the Patrol Division; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as a Captain in the 143rd Military Police Battalion Joe <br />Rodriguez was activated into Federal Service on January 17, 1991 and <br />was deployed to the front lines to establish a Prisoner of War camp in <br />the Kuwaiti Field of Operations near Hafir al Batin, Saudi Arabia; <br />after the armistice the 40,000 prisoners were turned over to the Saudi <br />Arabian National Guard and the 143rd Military Police Battalion was <br />redeployed to the United States on May 23, 1991; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Captain Rodriguez has earned the National Defense Ribbon, <br />the Southwest Asia Service Medal with device, Army Commendation Medal <br />and pending, the Bronze Star, while serving our country; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Joe Rodriguez is a vital and respected employee of the <br />City of Redwood City who has served his country in war and peace for 18 <br />years, who again heeded the call to arms to defend freedom in a faraway <br />country, and who is now safely back with his family, friends and <br />co-workers who are very, very glad to have him home; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGI LA BERGE, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br />CITY, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, do hereby express our sincere <br />gratitude to JOSEPH J.
