<br />0 RIG I N A L <br /> <br />6/24/91 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />11544 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION HONORING THE MARINE SCIENCE INSTITUTE ON ITS TWENTY-FIRST <br />ANNIVERSARY <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Marine Ecological Institute, first organized in 1970 in <br /> <br />response to concerns regarding water resources, celebrated its twenty-first <br /> <br />anniversary on June 1st with a new logo and name, <br /> <br />the Marine Science <br /> <br />Institute, to underscore the importance of science education and research <br />in solving the environmental challenges of today and tomorrow; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the goals of the Institute encompass increasing awareness <br />of individual environmental responsibility, the delicate balance of nature, <br /> <br />and improved science literacy through innovative and creative "hands-on" <br /> <br />programs; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City is proud and fortunate to be the <br />homeport of the R/V Inland Seas, the eighty-five foot ship which introduces <br /> <br />students of all ages to the complexities of the ecosystem of San Francisco <br /> <br />Bay as part of the Discovery Voyage Program; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGI LA BERGE, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br /> <br />CITY, <br /> <br />ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, <br /> <br />do hereby <br /> <br />extend <br /> <br />heartiest <br /> <br />congratulations to the MARINE SCIENCE INSTITUTE on its twenty-first <br /> <br />anniversary, <br /> <br />and gratefully acknowledge the positive <br /> <br />influence <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />Institute has had on our City, our students and the environment. <br /> <br />~lr <br />
