4. INVOCATION - Pastor Dennis Logie, Sequoia Christian Church <br />5. SPECIAL ORDERS OF THE DAY -- Proclamation: Park and Recreation Month <br />Mayor Ira read the proclamation and presented it to PRCS Director Centeno and <br />Superintendent Beth who highlighted July events such as the Summer Concert <br />series at Stafford Park on Wednesday evenings from 6 -8 p.m. and the Downtown <br />Live concerts on the plaza on Friday evenings. He stated that a new kids' concert will <br />be held on Saturday, July 23 behind the Red Morton Community Center. This event <br />involved partnering with Whole Foods and the Redwood City Mothers Club and <br />provides this children's event at no cost to the City. <br />6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br />M/S Bain /Pierce to waive reading of the Consent Calendar except the ordinances by <br />title, adopt the resolutions and the ordinances, and approve other items. Council <br />Member Hartnett stated that he would not be voting on Item 6.1.13 because he lives <br />near the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Vice Mayor Ira stated his abstention on Item <br />6.1.E as he sits on the Board of SBSA. The motion passed by a unanimous roll <br />call vote by those present with Council Member Howard absent; and Council <br />Member Hartnett abstaining on item 6.1.13 and Mayor Ira abstaining on item <br />6A.E. <br />Cathy Moyer reported on a recent event held by the Friends of Redwood City at the <br />library that was a resounding success with 150 participants. She stated that a <br />number of issues came out of that and that a detailed report would be available on <br />their website: www.forwc.orq Some highlights she mentioned were support for <br />protection and greater access to use of the baylands; carrying capacity and a <br />generalized preference to leave contingency buffers in development and growth; <br />support for a vibrant, energetic downtown with housing. Areas of concern were <br />downtown parking, eminent domain; the Costco expansion with gas pumps and <br />related traffic issues. <br />Nedra Moore gave a memorial tribute to John C. Edmiston television engineer who <br />assisted in broadcasting of Redwood City Council meetings. She stated that Mr. <br />Edmiston died May 26, 2005 after a short illness and leaves his wife and son. He <br />was born in San Francisco, before and after serving in Vietnam, he earned Bachelor <br />degrees in zoology and electrical engineering. His work in the TV industry began as <br />maintenance engineer for KCSM -TV and KTVU; continuing to his own video <br />production company, "Times Two Video Productions ", with his wife, Terry. He <br />continued freelance work for numerous companies. Mr. Edmiston was the backbone <br />of Peninsula TV as he was a tireless leader in ensuring the highest quality in the <br />production of the shows aired.
