'20

sponsorship and financial support would greatly help the development
of Redwood city's Recreational activities.

"

Acting Chairman Hagan thanked Mr. Bygdnes and Mr. Oleson
for coming- to the meeting, and'Mr. Bogie made a motion that a letter
of gratification be sent to the Lions Club for their-spirit of help-
fulness and for sending Mr. Bygdnes and Mr. Oleson to-present their
proposal to the Committee. Mr. Van Gundy seconded the motion which
was carried unanimouslY7 and the secretary was directed to write
the - letter. "

"-

Andrew Spinas mentioned that there has been some discussion,
regarding a playground in Edgewood Park among the people residing in
that distrct. Mr. Dimmitt stated that land was too costly in that
district to considèr obtaining a playground site there at -the present
time: stating that there was, however, a vacant lot in that district
owned by Hare, Brewer & Kelly; upon which the boys were allowed to
play football, and that the City each year took steps to keep the
field in shape for the boys.

- -

There was further discussion-relative to the previously
discussed playground site in the Five Points District. City Manager
Dimmitt stated that he has picked out a possible site in that dis-
trict, which is owned by Flynn & McGarvey, who have agreed to gîve
Mr. Di~tt a price upon it.

Dr. August Fromm was present at the meeting representing
the newly organized Yacht Club. One of-the things which he wished
to determine was just how much the City would charge the Yacht Club
for the use of the Yacht" Club building. Mr. Dimmitt said the City
did not wish to charge very much, but did feel that the Club should
be called upon to pay something; the amount to be determined by the
City Council.

Dr. Fromm thanked the Committee' for sponsoring the first
meeting of his group, stating that-there were about forty members
present, much enthusiasm was shown, and that he expected more at the
next meeting; as many people who were unable to attend that meeting
have expressed a desire to become members of the organization.

. -

Having in mind the recent tragedy in which four boys lost
their lives, Dr. Fromm stated that an organization such as the new
Yacht Club could do much towards securing- the cooperation of it-s
members to become safety conscious.

The members of the Committee fel t that Dr. Fromm and the
group he represented should be highly commended for the interest
taken in the safety of the younger boys interested in sailing, and
Mr. Van Gundy made a moiton that a letter be sent to the Yacht Club

L~,,__,,--- ---- - -------- ,---------~,------,-~-_.----~--,_...--

, ------,-----~---'" ,---,--------~--,,"--,., ------------------_u -.-------------,-.",--- - ----------,,------------- -.. ----
