REDWOOD CITY EL CAMINO REAL CORRIDOR PLAN
OTHER PLANS AND REGULATIONS
GENERAL PLAN (2010)
Redwood City's General Plan, approved by the City Council
in October 2010, establishes key goals, policies, and pro-
grams for the City's long-term physical development. Any
plan for the EI Camino Real corridor and the Study Area will
need to be consistent with the General Plan. The General
Plan's blueprint for Redwood City includes transforming EI
Camino Real from a suburban, low-density strip commer-
cial highway into a vibrant, mixed-use, pedestrian -friendly,
grand boulevard that links regional transportation improve-
ments and local economic development efforts (see Goal
BE -12). The General Plan specifies that this transformation
will be accomplished, in part, by, new development projects
that "emphasize pedestrian orientation in site and building
design, promoting a walkable environment with active street
frontages, well -scaled and designed buildings, and engag-
ing outdoor spaces." It also provides that "new street tree
plantings, widened sidewalks, and pedestrian -scaled light-
ing will transform the public streetscape to create a 'great
street' experience that communicates the spirit and living
quality of Redwood City." The EI Camino Real Corridor Plan
is one mechanism for implementing this vision.
B-2
T
v
aD
cD
cri
