8.C. - Page 11 <br />municipal election, duly canvass the returns and declare the result thereof, and install the newly <br />elected officers, if any; provided, however, that for any such election consolidated with a <br />statewide election or a school district election, the returns shall be canvassed and the results <br />thereof declared in accordance with the provisions of law regulating the statewide or school <br />district election, and newly elected officers, if any, shall be installed at the first regular meeting <br />of the Council following the canvass of returns and declaration of results by the agency or officer <br />so empowered. (As amended November 4,1986, filed Secretary of State January 5,1987) <br />LEGISLATION <br />Section 6. INITIATIVE, REFERENDUM AND RECALL: <br />Ordinances may be initiated, or the referendum exercised on ordinances passed by the eCouncil, <br />under and in accordance with the eConstitution and general laws of the sState, and any elective <br />officer may be recalled from office under and in pursuance of the provisions of the eConstitution <br />and general laws; provided, however, that if a minority of the eCouncil are sought to be recalled <br />no candidate or candidates shall be elected to fill the place or places of any officer sought to be <br />recalled, but in case of such recall such office shall be deemed vacant and shall be filled by <br />appointment like other vacancies in elective offices; provided further, that should a majority, or <br />more, of the eCouncil be sought to be recalled, the general provisions of the State law applicable <br />to recall of officers shall apply. Petitions for exercising the initiative, referendum, or recall, may <br />be circulated or deposited for signatures in not less than three public places in the eCity, to be <br />designated by the eCouncil. Notice of the deposit thereof shall be given by publication in <br />accordance with procedures established bv_ ordinance of the Council for the publication of <br />notices t re„ ei m errep +;,V. , , ' ons publis-hod arx The <br />eCouncil shall provide by ordinance the detailed procedure for carrying out the provisions of this <br />section. <br />Section 7. ELECTIVE OFFICERS: <br />The elective officers of Redwood City shall be seven eCouncilmembers, who shall be elected <br />from the eCity at large at a general municipal election therein. <br />Section 8. ELIGIBILITY OF ELECTIVE OFFICERS: <br />No person shall be eligible for election to, or hold any elective office of the eCity unless such <br />person shall have been a resident and elector thereof for at least 3o days next preceding the time <br />of filing nominating papers or equivalent declaration of candidacy for such office, or such person's <br />appointment to fill a vacancy therein.
