The appointment expired in January of 2016, at which time Kathryn Lion
was reappointed as the Redwood City representative after expressing an interest in
continuing to serve in this capacity. On December 21, 2017 the appointment will again
expire, and Kathryn Lion has expressed interest in continuing to represent Redwood
City.
ANALYSIS
The City Council of Redwood City is the designated appointing body and may appoint
Kathryn Lion to a four-year term instead of a two-year term, as has currently been
practiced. In an interest letter to the City Council, dated November 8, 2017, Ms. Lion
stated her desire to serve for a four-year term. The letter is included as Attachment 1 to
this staff report. The terms for Board of Trustees are either two- or four-year terms, and
the length of representation is at the discretion of the appointing body. Several cities
within San Mateo County currently appoint their Board of Trustee representative to four-
year terms.
Additional requirements to serve as a Board of Trustee for the San Mateo County
Mosquito and Vector Control District are that applicants must reside in the city they wish
to represent and be at least 21 years of age. Kathryn Lion has been a resident of
Redwood City since 2010 and meets the age requirement.
