CHAPTER 2 | EcONOMIc VItALIt Y
37
GOAL
• Proactively manage the Corridor using innovating parking solutions. Ensure that people can easily access
businesses by car, while making the most efficient use of limited space on El Camino Real.
StRAtEGIES
2F Encourage property owners to obtain and develop
joint use off-street parking areas to serve existing busi-
nesses and anticipated new development.
2G Incentivize shared parking and connecting private
parking lots through reduced parking ratios.
2H Develop a parking management program for the Corri-
dor that coordinates shared, short-term, and employee
parking. Strategies may include working with business-
es to create formal mutually beneficial arrangements
for sharing of existing parking, converting parallel
parking to angled parking, and working with develop-
ers to identify opportunities for public use of parking at
certain hours.
2I Extend the geographic area eligible to participate in
the In-Lieu Parking Fee program to include all parcels
within the Planning Area.
2J Identify opportunities to provide publicly available
parking (either through City-owned lots or through
shared-use agreements with private development) at
convenient locations throughout the Corridor to com-
pensate for the loss of on-street parking on El Camino
Real.
2K Convert parallel parking to angled parking on side
streets that have excess right-of-way.
2L Create short term parking zones (20 minutes or less) on
side streets near intersections with El Camino Real to
allow for deliveries, drop-offs and pick-ups, rideshare,
loading, and quick customer trips.
2M Allow for reduced parking requirements for com-
mercial space with monitored Transportation Demand
Management (TDM) plans.
Clearly marked loading zones on side streets will provide space for deliveries, drop-offs and pick-ups, rideshare,
loading, and quick customer trips.
